Conservancy Farm

Fifth of seven hikes in the Walk in Wonder 2026 hike-a-thon.

Conservancy Farm is 99 acres consisting primarily of restored prairie, along with a community garden, some woods and wetland, and the farmhouse that now houses the SMLC offices. The original settler’s cabin from the 1830s is also there, although the original settler didn’t seem to be home when we visited.

The mowed path cuts through the heart of the prairie. As we walked, we were immersed in the joyful cacophony of buzzing insects and calling birds. In the community garden, hummingbirds chased each other through the maze, and a northern house wren chattered.

This is one of our favorite places to visit. There is a sense of peace and strength to the place, as one gazes across the fields and watches the butterflies flutter, that feeling that things are gonna be okay.
