If there’s one word to describe Secrest Preserve, it’s BUTTERFLIES. 🦋
The trail is a one-mile loop, with the northern half passing through oak-hickory forest and the southern half more densely packed with understory shrubs. We were delighted (and a bit surprised!) to find another patch of buttonbush, with its pincushion flowers, in a sunny clearing. Buttonbushes are key nectar sources for bees, hummingbirds, and—as you can see in the photos—a favorite of butterflies!
